How & Why it Works
When a dog or cat repeats an unwanted behaviour (such as scratching,
soiling, or jumping onto furniture), it usually starts in the same location. To help
break this habit, simply pace the Contech ScatMat in that spot. After your pet encounters
the ScatMat a few times, it will develop an aversion to that location. After a
while, you'll be able to leave the ScatMat switched off, and just the sight of it
will continue to modify your pet's behavior. Eventually, you'll be able to remove
the ScatMat altogether.
The Contech Scat Mat is effective for several reasons

Components
The ScatMat consists of two main components: a flexible vinyl mat containing an embedded
electrical grid, and a removable power pack with a three-level intensity selector. (Additional
extension or dummy mats are also available to extend the ScatMat's coverage.) The ScatMat is
powered by one 9-volt battery (not included), or for high-traffic locations, the optional wall plug
adapter (not included).

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my ScatMat outside?
We do not recommend using the ScatMat outside. The power pack is not waterproof and when
exposed to dust and dirt, there will be a dramatic reduction in the ScatMat's ability to detect an
animal. If the power pack becomes wet, it will stop functioning.
Could the ScatMat harm my pet?
No. The ScatMat generates pulses like static electricity. You've probably felt these on dry, cool
days when you touch a doorknob or metal object. They are surprising, but otherwise harmless.
Could the ScatMat harm my child?
No. A child stepping on the mat with bare or stocking feet would feel a static-type sensation that
is surprising, but harmless.
What do the experts say about the ScatMat as a tool for training pets?
Contech consulted numerous animal welfare authorities when it introduced the ScatMat, and
they concluded it has a positive roll to play in behavior training.
How long does the battery last?
A single nine-volt battery can operate for up to six months (or 10,000 activations), or in high
traffic areas you can use the optional AC adapter, available separately.
